Information for Young People

Young Greens are the youth and student branch of the Green Party.

They aim to harness the energy and ideas of young people, and change the direction of our society towards a sustainable and just future.

They believe that our political system must be changed from the inside as well as by wider society.

They aim to represent the values that have disappeared from politics and left people disillusioned.
They organise within and beyond the Green Party in the interests of young people.

They are autonomous from the Green Party but believe it is the best place to work for genuine, lasting political change.
Their aim is to empower young people to get involved in politics and  change the world.

Young Greens members connect and interact through Local Groups.

This could range from meeting up socially to discuss  favourite topics, to setting up talks or actions, getting involved in national campaigns.
Linking to local Green Party Groups to help with election campaigns,
and almost anything that fires imagination...

National Young Greens events and the twice-yearly Green Party Conference provide opportunities for the national Young Greens network to meet up and share ideas.
The Young Greens Committee runs the national organisation, and throughout the year the Committee and the National Coordinator are there to support local groups with materials, advice, administrative help and anything else the groups request.

The Annual Convention is where members from across England and Wales come together for training, workshops, inspiring speakers and set the priorities for the network for the coming year, including electing the National Committee.

Depending on where you live, your local Young Greens group may be at varying stages of development, but as more people get involved, these groups will evolve.. Check out  their website here

This is a video response to Russell Brand's interview with Jeremy Paxman on 'Newsnight'.
In my opinion Russell has correctly identified some serious problems, but has recommended completely the wrong 'solution'.

 The Youth Vote
The general consensus seems to be that the youth of today are politically apathetic.

After all, even though there was a 7% increase in the numbers of 18-24 year olds voting in the 2010 general election (44%), that’s still less than the overall turnout of 65% and is still only half of all eligible young people!

Some would say that’s proof enough that young people just don’t care.

But looking deeper into the heart of the matter, you find studies which show that young people are considerably more motivated by issues rather than party allegiances.

In one particular study 67% said they were interested in national issues but only 38% said they were interested in ‘politics’.
Our society doesn't value our youth!

  LET IT BE YOUR GENERATION!

BITE THE BULLET CAMPAIGN FOR YOUTH TODAY

  Introduction

'Bite the Ballot' aims to encourage young people to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

We want to inspire young people to take ownership of their individual and collective futures and become the generation that champions change in politics.

We aspire to reverse the pattern of poor electoral turnout, and in giving young people a voice, we hope to make their votes and opinions count in the political arena.

Think you have power? You don't if you don't Vote!

By registering to vote you balance up the system. Politicians write policies to win peoples votes, and at the moment the older generation are voting.

Only 56% of young people are registered to vote.

If you aren't registered then the Party's don't  need to care about you. Sounds harsh, but that's how it is.

I don't think it's right that is the way it is and I am working hard to change that -

We need to put the youth vote back on the map and wave it in the faces of our 'stuck in the last Century' politicians.

They all need to do more to win Your votes and not just keep ignoring a whole Generation!

For that to happen you need to register to use your vote!

There are Re-solutions     Awaiting Warriors!

Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman talks to Russell Brand about voting, revolution and beards. He gives some reasons why you should'nt vote.

*What is wrong with the world these days?

Listen to what she says and she is only 12 years old. We need to make a change! *
