The elected members of Glastonbury and Street Green Party. We currently have nine seats on Glastonbury Town Council 2019
In 2011 four Greens won seats on the Town Council
Many Green Candidates stood in the Local elections for Town and District in 2015.
The Glastonbury Greens bagged seven seats! Unfortunately, due to ill health, one of the elected members couldn't take up his seat and the other decided to become an Independent Councillor. In the Elections of 2019 the Glastonbury Greens achieved nine seats out of sixteen on the Town Council and two seats for Mendip District Council, bringing the Green councillors count to ten.
The election of Glastonbury's first Green Mayor Cllr Denise Michell and her Deputy Mayor Green Cllr Jon Cousins. 2015-16
Elected unanimously at the Mayor Making Ceremony, 136th Mayor of Glastonbury Glastonbury Town Hall, 19th May 2015
Councillor Denise Michell has become Glastonbury Town’s first Druid Green Mayor and Councillor Jon Cousins has stepped into her shoes as the new Deputy.
Mrs Michell said she was looking forward to the next year.
“I am delighted, not only for myself, but also for Councillor Jon Cousins who was elected as Deputy Mayor,” she said. “The whole evening was a such a memorable occasion.
I have to say it was somewhat of a surprise to find myself the only nomination, and what an extreme honour it is to be elected Mayor of Glastonbury. I’d like to give a big thank you to our fellow councillors of all colours for their unanimous support.
I would especially like to thank councillors John Keery and Ian Tucker for nominating and seconding me for Mayor, and councillors Nick Cottle and Stephen Shepherd for nominating and seconding Mr Cousins as my Deputy."
2016 -17 The Baton and Regalia passed to Deputy Jon Cousins. He has been a brilliant representative for our wonderful Town. 2nd Green Mayor for Glastonbury and Green Cllr. Emma George for Deputy.

On Tuesday 10th May 2016, following the successful Mayoralty of Cllr Denise Michell, Cllr Jon Cousins became the second Glastonbury Green Councillor to be elected as Mayor of Glastonbury!
Cllr Cousins was unanimously voted into office by the full Town Council, and said afterwards: “Being elected the 317th Mayor of Glastonbury is something I truly never expected to happen…
It is a huge honour to have this opportunity to serve Glastonbury, and – therefore – it seemed appropriate to have three words added to the ‘Declaration of Acceptance of Office’ before I would agree to say or sign it…
They are: ‘and serve Glastonbury’ – I don’t expect any future Mayors will remove them! ”

On Tuesday, 9th May 2017, Cllr. Emma George became the 318th – and third successive Green – Mayor of Glastonbury!
Out-going Mayor, Cllr. Jon Cousins, proposed his Deputy for the position as the final motion of his Mayoralty, telling the assembled Councillors and members of the public:
“It is with great pleasure that I propose Cllr Emma George for election to the role of Mayor of Glastonbury. I feel that the election of the current Deputy Mayor to the highest office is something that is both seemly and worthy.”
As the third Green Mayor of Glastonbury, Emma followed Cllrs. Jon Cousins (2016-17) and Denise Michell (2015-16);
This was a major achievement for the Green Party’s members and supporters in the South West.
Elections again in 2019 and the Green Mayor's continue with Cllr. Denise Michell elected to the Office of Mayor once more
and Cllr. Jon Cousins as Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year!
A first for Glastonbury!
Emma’s first act as Mayor was to preside over the election of Liberal Democrats Councillor Denise Abbot as Deputy Mayor; a first for Glastonbury – as the positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor have never been held by two women during one Mayoralty before!
Cllrs. Emma George and Denise Abbott enthroned as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Glastonbury.
The first time that two women have sat at the top of table in the Council Chamber!
